Guide for Hose Failure Analysis
Common Causes for Failures

Common symptoms and solutions for hose assembly failures:

HIGH TEMPERATURE

SYMPTOM: Hose is hard, brittle and resists bending. It may show visible signs on cover of being dried out and charred.

CAUSE: Hose was exposed to heat in excess of recommended value. These conditions draw plasticizers out of the rubber material causing it to turn hard and brittle. Any combination of oxygen and heat will also accelerate the hardening of the inner tube. Cavitation may also create the same effect. Old aged hose may exhibit same symptoms.

SOLUTION: Replace hose assembly. Review application operating temperature. Lower operating temperature to within the hoses working limits or replace the hose with one that has a qualified temperature rating. Install heat guards or shields as required.
